By using Mum you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use Mum.
Mum is a wellbeing and self-reflection companion. It offers everyday emotional reflection, gentle psychological education, journaling, mood and energy check-ins, habit-building "pathways", and conversations with an AI companion called "Mum".
Mum is not, and must not be relied on as: - therapy, counselling, psychotherapy, or any form of mental-health treatment; - medical, psychological, psychiatric, legal, or financial advice; - a diagnostic tool; or - a crisis, emergency, or suicide-prevention service.
Mum is not for emergencies. If you are in crisis, or you think you may harm yourself or someone else, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line immediately. Mum surfaces crisis resources for your region, and you can find one for your country at findahelpline.com.
"Mum" is an artificial-intelligence companion, not a human, and not a therapist, doctor, or licensed professional. Mum can be wrong, incomplete, or unexpected, like any AI system. Use your own judgement and seek qualified human help for anything important.
You must be 18 years or older to use Mum. By using Mum you confirm that you are at least 18. We may refuse, suspend, or terminate access if we believe a user is under 18 or has provided false eligibility information.
Using Mum does not create any therapist–client, doctor–patient, lawyer–client, or other professional relationship between you and us or "Mum". Nothing in the Service should be treated as professional advice. Always seek the advice of a qualified professional for medical, psychological, legal, or financial questions.
Mum may offer to connect you to independent, accredited/registered human counsellors ("Counsellors"). In this version, Mum provides a referral / signposting service only — "Mum is just the doorway". Any care you receive is provided by the Counsellor under their own terms and professional responsibility, separately and confidentially from us. We are not a party to, and are not responsible for, that care. The counsellor bridge is never a crisis-response channel.
You retain ownership of what you write in Mum (your check-ins, notes, journal entries, and conversations). In this version, your data is stored on your own device. When you use the AI chat, the recent conversation and limited personalisation (your first name, tone preference, and a short device-built memory summary) are sent through our backend to our AI provider, Anthropic, to generate a reply. See the Privacy Policy for details. You are responsible for the content you submit and for keeping your own device secure.
You agree not to: - use Mum for any unlawful purpose, or in any way that could harm yourself or others; - rely on Mum in place of professional or emergency help; - attempt to misuse, overload, probe, reverse-engineer, or circumvent the safety features, access controls, or rate limits of the Service or our backend; - use Mum to generate or solicit content that is illegal, abusive, or that seeks methods of self-harm or harm to others; or - use the Service on behalf of anyone under 18.
We use technical measures (including access codes and rate limiting) to protect the Service; circumventing them is a breach of these Terms.
Mum includes safety features, including automated screening intended to detect language suggesting crisis or risk and to surface human help. These features are limited and imperfect. They may miss genuine risk and may sometimes trigger when there is none. They are not a clinical risk assessment and are not monitored by a human in real time. They do not replace emergency services or professional care.
We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of Mum at any time. We may update these Terms; if we make material changes we will take reasonable steps to notify you (for example, in-app), and continued use after changes means you accept them.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Mum is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or that the Service or its safety features will be uninterrupted or error-free. (Note for lawyer: some consumer-protection laws — e.g. the Australian Consumer Law — imply guarantees that cannot be excluded; this clause must be adapted to the governing law and not overstate exclusions.)
To the maximum extent permitted by law, and except for liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, [[LEGAL ENTITY]] is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any decision you make or action you take (or do not take) based on the Service. (Note for lawyer: insert a liability cap and carve-outs appropriate to the governing law and to a consumer service touching mental wellbeing; confirm enforceability.)
You agree to indemnify [[LEGAL ENTITY]] against claims arising from your misuse of the Service or breach of these Terms, to the extent permitted by law. (Note for lawyer: confirm whether an indemnity is appropriate/enforceable for a consumer service in the governing law.)
These Terms are governed by the laws of [[GOVERNING LAW]], and disputes are subject to the courts of [[GOVERNING LAW]], without affecting any mandatory consumer rights you have where you live.
Questions about these Terms: [[CONTACT EMAIL]].
DRAFT — prepared to assist a qualified lawyer's review. Not legal advice; creates no attorney–client relationship.
